Thank you for your interest in my
work. I'd like to share with you a brief summary of what led me
to where I am now together with one or two insights about the
challenges of being a CEO.
I love people!
Pure and simple, that’s it. As I’ve evolved in my personal and
business life, I’ve gained the realization that by working at
making my world a better place, and helping to make the world of
others a better place, ultimately The World becomes a better
place for others, both for those already here, and also for
those generations to come. This has become my passion, my
purpose.
I began running my own business in England at age 17. By the
ripe age of 27, I moved to California and became Vice President
of a large, multinational clothing corporation. After 6 years in
the “corporate” world, I decided that “smaller” was better (for
me) and resigned from that company, starting my own import and
distribution business. I spent more than the next 15 years
growing that business and the various incarnations into which it
“morphed.”
I awoke one day to the realization that there was something much
more important for me to accomplish in this life than importing
and distributing apparel. Thanks to some individuals I met, the
world of coaching was introduced to me and it was
“love-at-first-bite!” After completing my training with CTI
(Coaches Training Institute), I became certified by ICF
(International Coach Federation).
In recent years,
I’ve designed and developed The GROW Principle®, a powerful and
simple tool for growth and transformation. It has been taught as
a coaching tool to members of ICF, PCMA (Professional Coaches
and Mentors Association) and at UCLA Extension to HR
professionals. It has been adapted for use by corporate teams
and leaders, for use by couples in relationship and by
individuals from all walks of life for personal growth and
change. Books, audio and other products are in the process of
being developed for distribution, and I am extremely proud of
this body of work as it continues to evolve.
As a consultative
executive coach, I now work
primarily with business owners and CEOs of small to moderate
sized businesses. As a former CEO myself, I know how isolating
it can be at the top. You are ultimately responsible for
everything and expected to be an expert everywhere in the
company, yet who can you talk to? With whom does the CEO engage
in conversation, that does not have an agenda? With whom to
express concerns, challenges, dreams? With whom to brainstorm,
role-play or to be held accountable? These are the kinds of
questions I hear from CEOs and business owners, and they all
have found coaching to be helpful in reducing stress, creating
life balance, in gaining a sense of achievement and increasing
their profitability, almost instantly, from the very first
session. Yes, coaching has become very rewarding, in many ways,
for all parties concerned!
On a personal note, my wife,
Samantha, our son Jake and our son-to-be (in November 2009) live
in Southern California and travel to London, England several
times a year where we have a home and where Sam's business,
Aspire
Coaching and Training is headquartered.
Like I said, I
love people, and this love affair is, without question, a
lifelong romance!
I am always open to your comments
or questions and will do my best to respond in a timely manner.
